How to make our “Happily Ever After” Sign from the bridal showcase

We all know that DIY is in. Why pay someone else to make something you can! We decided that for our bridal show we would go with that theme and make the DIY Happily Ever After Wedding sign.

What you will need:

  • 1 yard of Burlap
  • 2 sheets of scrap book paper (or Craft letters like these Joliee ones)
  • Fabric Glue
  • Hemp String in your preference of color
  • A die cut machine if you have one (Most BenFranklin Craft store have one)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Clear Nail polish

Extras:

  • A sewing machine to seal edges to prevent fraying

Steps for with a Die Cut Machine

  1. Pick your die cut for the flag. Most have different sizes we used a 9x9x7 triangle
  2. For easiest use cut your burlap into strips a little wider than your desired triangle.
  3. Poise the burlap in the die cut machine (placing it at an angle is best).
  4. Use the die cut to cut out all 16 triangles (plus one extra just in case)
  5. If you want to use this for something other than hanging and not touching we recommend sealing the edges. You can do that by
  6.                             i.      Sewing the edges
ii.      Placing clear nail polish on all of the sides
  7. Also using die cut get the desired letters you want for ours we used the 4in uppercase letters
  8. Cut out all 16 letters
  9. Now that you are all cut out its time to glue!
  10. Starting with the H clue the back of the letter then place it on the burlap triangle with the point of the triangle facing down.
  11. Make sure once you secure the letter to the burlap you pull the triangle off whatever surface you have it on so it doesn’t stick (the glue will bleed out the back) then place it flat on another surface.
  12. Once you finish all these steps it’s time to add the string!
  13. Starting with the H string through each of the corners. Start at the back of the triangle and go over the burlap so you can see the string (See Image).  You don’t want to make to big of a hole but if you are having trouble getting yard through the burlap use a pen it open up the fibers a bit.
  14. Once you have all the letters strung on space them out accordingly and tape the back to secure them flat (see image).
  15. ALL DONE!

Steps without a Die Cut

  1. On cardboard or cardstock make a flag template triangle with 9x9x7 sides
  2. Trace the template onto the burlap and cut out 16 triangles.
  3. If you want to use this for something other than hanging and not touching we recommend sealing the edges. You can do that by
  4.  Sewing the edgesPlacing clear nail polish on all of the sides
  5. The letters will be a little trickier so we recommend buying ones like these, or printing them out of word.
  6. You can go to the insert word art
  7. Insert Happily Ever hitting enter after every letter
  8. Chose the font and size of letter you want. We recommend block letters like Calibri (body) and size 520. Then choose a white fill and a black line, make sure the line is thick to trace with.
  9. Cut all the letters out
  10. Trace them onto the scrapbook paper
  11. Cut them out.
  12. Now that you are all cut out its time to glue!
  13. Starting with the H clue the back of the letter then place it on the burlap triangle with the point of the triangle facing down.
  14. Make sure once you secure the letter to the burlap you pull the triangle off whatever surface you have it on so it doesn’t stick (the glue will bleed out the back) then place it flat on another surface.
  15. Once you finish all these steps it’s time to add the string!
  16. Starting with the H string through each of the corners. Start at the back of the triangle and go over the burlap so you can see the string (See Image).  You don’t want to make to big of a hole but if you are having trouble getting yard through the burlap use a pen it open up the fibers a bit.
  17. Once you have all the letters strung on space them out accordingly and tape the back to secure them flat (see image).
  18. ALL DONE!
