Composting at Green Hotels in Eugene, Oregon

Our Green Initiatives Team set out at the beginning of the year with the goal of reducing Valley River Inn’s environmental impact.  With several exciting initiatives already in place, such as new energy and water efficient laundry machines and lighting policy changes, we have already been able to make a significant amount of progress in 2013.  In fact, in April we were awarded the Silver Level Green Leader award by TripAdvisor.  After receiving this prestigious award, we are now focused on further decreasing our environmental impact with the goal of being awarded a Gold Level Green Leader hotel in Eugene, Oregon.

The Green Initiatives Team and the rest of our tenured, passionate associates at Valley River Inn are currently working to implement a composting program as our next “green” initiative.  Led by Green Initiatives Team President Robert Lane, we have installed several composting bins throughout the hotel and are currently working to train all associates on the composting process.  Throughout this process, the "Love Food Not Waste" program for Eugene area businesses has helped to support our efforts in getting our composting program started. With their fun green bins we have been able to dramatically reduce waste throughout the hotel prep areas, dishwashing stations, executive offices, and banquet rooms.      

We are excited about the new changes here and cannot wait to see what initiatives this green hotel can implement next.
